With the local elections just five months away, Richard Boyd Barrett TD will launch the Greystones People Before Profit Alliance candidate Jacqui Johnston’s campaign at a public meeting on Monday 9th December at 8pm in the Hot Spot, Greystones.
Deputy Boyd Barrett has strongly condemned the Government’s austerity policies over the last number of years and believes that the much heralded exit from the bail-out programme later this month is just spin and mirage.
“The reality will not change as Ireland’s huge debt mountain will see external economic control and austerity continue,” said Deputy Boyd Barrett.
“In response to the crippling impact of austerity on the ordinary citizens of this country, the People Before Profit Alliance is fielding over forty candidates in next year’s local elections. Jacqui Johnston from Greystones has been a dedicated community and political activist for a number of years and has worked tirelessly on a wide range of local and national issues. I am delighted to launch her campaign and urge all those interested in being part of a movement for a fairer, more equal society to join her to bring about real and meaningful change,” added the TD.
Ms Johnston, who has recently been involved in the campaign to retain the 24 hour A&E department at St Columcille’s Hospital for the people of Wicklow, said, “I am looking forward to putting myself before the people of Greystones and relish the opportunity to campaign with and on behalf of those who are struggling as a result of years of crippling austerity and those who believe in a fairer, more equal society. If we stand together, we can make a difference within our community.”
