Around 200 people packed into Wynn’s Hotel last night for the People Before Profit ‘Post-Election Rally’. The rally was chaired by national convenor Ailbhe Smyth and the opening speech was from newly elected Belfast City Councillor Cllr Gerry Carroll who spoke about recent controversy over racist remarks back by Peter Robinson and the fight against privatisation in Northern Ireland. He was followed by a range of speakers on the night included newly elected councillors candidates from around the country including Cllr Sonya Stapleton, Cllr Deirdre Wadding, Cllr Seamus O’Boyle, Cllr Brid Smith and Sharon Briggs. A worker currently involved in the occupation of the Paris Bakery addressed the crowd and was given a standing ovation. The wonderful Resistance Choir provided music on the night.
