In a statement, People Before Profit have demanded that the government use the expected budget dividend, reported in the Irish Times, to give back to ordinary people who have dealt with so many disastrous cuts to services over successive regressive budgets.
People Before Profit spokesperson, Cllr Gino Kenny has said “it is imperative that the government give back to all those who have had services cut over the last number of years. The priority for the government should be to reinstate the lone-parent payment, investing in childcare services and investing in other services that are vital for people”.
Cllr Kenny said “If the government do not reverse the cuts that have been endured by some of the most in need in Irish society, then they will prove that they have betrayed these people”.
“The government has a moral responsibility to reverse the painful burden of cuts that have been a blight on the lives of ordinary people like lone parents and those who need these services the most”. said Cllr Kenny.
Cllr Gino Kenny is a People Before Profit councillor in South Dublin County Council. He was elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2014. He has been at the forefront of the campaign against the property and household charges and has been a part of the campaign against the introduction of the Water Tax in 2015 inside and outside the council chambers.
